I am retired and have chosen to wear these almost all the time. I hike in the foothills around Boulder, Colorado with them, wear them to the store and to go out. Only problem is that I find myself adjusting the laces (making them looser or tighter) from time to time. That's probably just an idiosyncrasy of mine, not a problem with the shoe.

Patagonia Footwear Men's Drifter Gore Tex Hiking ShoeI have been to local outfitter type stores to find a shoe in this style that gives me adequate support to no avail. I was completely unsatisfied with Merrill in this style and stumbled into the Patagonia on Amazon.I have finally found a reasonably priced shoe with higher standards and am very pleased

This shoe is light weight and very comfortable. The sole provides great traction on rocky surfaces. I mostly use it for day hikes.
