have been running dirt tracks and my favourite mountain track once a week for over 20 odd years, replacing shoes every year. in that time have tried all the brands and had settled on asics for the last few years until introduced to the salomon brand. first thing i noticed about the xt wings 2 was it felt solid like a boot underfoot but was able to run like normal runners, on mountain tracks it gives me confidence to be able to step from rock to rock and take longer strides on the loose downhill stuff knowing the tread will grip without me having to do a little dance to regain balance, while the stronger toe protection helps on the return trips when my legs are fatigued and start kicking the tops of rocks and logs. recently completed 8hour adventure race with run, ride and kayak with the shoe being submerged in water and mud several times but after a few steps the running action pumps out the water so if wearing light socks your feet feel dry again in a very short time. impressed by the lace system that does not loosen while running and can be hidden in the tongue pocket to prevent any catching although once covered in mud can take a bit of force and swearing to undo the laces.have not had them long enough to comment on how long they last but they feel like they will go the distance for a couple of years. biggest thing is when wearing these shoes i have the confidence they will look after my feet and keep me in control in all offroad conditions.

The Salomon XT Wings 2, whereas expensive are worth it. Light weight, but made of very durable material. My favorite feature? The the locking mechanism of the lacing system, once engaged it tuck unobtrusively into the tongue of the shoe. My only advice-go a half size bigger than you think, they are a very precise fit so if you switch to a heavy sock it's tight.

Im not much of a shoe guy, but on a whim a few years back my wife bought me some Salomon boots that probably would have survived a nuclear war. I still have them. So when I needed normal day to day shoes I grabbed these. First off they are light as can be and super comfy.I bought them in March of 12 and now a year later, after just normal daily use (no sports other than weight lifting and whiffle ball with the kids...) the draw strings loosen up a bit and a rip has started on the top fabric of one shoe and the rubber outer part is coming off the bottom of one. I really dont punish these and had higher hopes for their durability. I'll have to look around again now before jumping right into Salomons.
