5Another Great ASICS Shoe
By GK
I've had these shoes for about a month now here in Afghanistan. There's no pavement and the terrain around here can be tough on all kinds of footwear. They have held up well for both running, lifting and have broke in quite nicely. I would recommend this shoe to anyone who prefers to run trails or needs a shoe that is capable of meeting strenuous demands.

5Great shoe - RUNS 1/2 Size Small
By Brent Hutson
This is a great shoe with the expected Asics feel. It does run 1/2 size smaller than other Asics running shoes, it is also a bit more narrow, so please order accordingly. I use this shoe at work and wear it for 8-10 hours per day. It has held up well and I am on my second pair.

5Very Comfortable ASICS
By Robert De Niro
This is a very comfortable shoe. Fits my foot like a glove. Its a small fit so most would need an extra 1/2 size bigger than normal. I'm usually in-between a size 11.5-12 US and I wear my pair of size 12 ASICS with no socks because its a very snug fit. I could probably get away with a size 12.5 with socks. I've owned this pair for about 12 months now and it has held up very well. I run about 15kms per week.I highly recommend this ASIC shoe if you want a high quality and comfortable cross country runner.

4Dirty, wet fun.
By OhCrapiHastheRuns
Dirty, wet fun: and no, I'm not talking about your girlfriend (not this time, anyway). I'm three runs (about 30mi) into my pair of these, after having spent the last 6 months or so in my NB Minimuses (Minimi?). I think the NB is a decent comparison point because it's one of the first minimal runners that got widespread distribution, and because the 4mm drop and rock shield makes for a decent set of training wheels before moving on to an all-out zero-drop mid-sole-less minimalist barnstormer. I particularly look at weight, feel and 'niche aptitude', materials and construction, fit, driability, style (inasmuch as it matters), .Weight: the empirical is easy, and the news is good. I weighed these myself and a recently calibrated analytical balance accurate to 1/100th of a gram. I've loved the NB's for their lightness, at 230g (8.11oz) my US10.5's are about an ounce heavier than advertised, but maybe their figure was determined with a different size. Still that's a lot less than a regular trail shoe (Brooks lists their Cascadia 6 @ 12.4oz). I was quite surprised to find that the Bare Grip 200's were very closely matched to the NB's: 257g (9.07oz) with the insole and 241g (8.50oz) without the insole. The reason I mention the insole is that, if you really want more feel and care that much about a half-ounce of weight, you may consider running these with socks but no insoles. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't say if it's a good idea or not. Regardless, for the aggressive tread on this shoe, I was very impressed.Feel: You're not going to feel the trail with these as you would with VFF's or a dedicated minimalist shoe like vivobarefoot's Ultra M. Still, taking into account that Mickey Thompson tread, it's way better than you'd think. This shoe has no midsole, none. Depending on the geology of where you're running, the 7mm lugs may protect your foot from pointy objects or not; it all depends on the size and sharpness of the rocks you're running on. And as obvious as the ears on Obama's head: these are not for the road, nope. Uh-uh. Gravel road? Nyet. For crushed-granite gravel roads, I'll stick to something with a rock plate, however thin. But when it comes to dirt, loose soil, and bad weather, the mud makes these shine. Barrel down muddy, technical descents with zero regard for ground as unstable as an ex-girlfriend; power through switchbacks and corners crooked as politicians with no fear of these succumbing to lateral g's and slipping out from beneath you. The spacing of the lugs is just right, mud will not cake, and rocks will not wedge in between them. The rubber is even slightly sticky, so gliding over smooth, exposed rock is a breeze, even when it's wet. Caveat: watch your toes, these things are a little pointy. You may find yourself catching your toe and tripping were you wouldn't normally in a more blunt-toed shoe. Not that I ever trip or fall, it's just what I've heard, right? (right?). Still, easy enough to overcome, and worth it.Materials and construction: mine have already been exposed to a fair amount of sharp, exposed rock and appear to be no worse for the wear. No cracked or torn lugs, no abrasions on the fabric, no hint of any kind of de-lamination or loss of adhesion. It's still early, but I'm heartened in that having adhered to the minimalist mindset, Inov-8 hasn't added a lot of unnecessary crap to the shoe. Sometimes, you look at a shoe and can see all the places it will go wrong, even if it hasn't yet. Not here, the materials are good, and the design is effective and KISS-simple. Even the laces are right: small diameter (about that of cooked spaghetti) and tough, they stay tight and tied. One odd thing: dirt gets in, and in surprising quantities. I run in wright socks, and when I take my socks off after a run, I often find fine dirt (almost like sediment) caked around my toenails. With the socks, it doesn't seem to be a problem with abrasion, but I wouldn't go without socks because of this. Also, how bad would that be on any sort of infection around the toenail? Yuck. Better to be like Marshall Ulrich and just get your toenails removed. The dirt issue and driability are the only things holding this back from a full five stars.Fit: I'm one of those in-betweeners, and I hate it. I'm US10.5 for some companies, US10 for some, and anywhere from EUR42 to EUR44. I got these in a US10 and they're good. Thank god someone makes shoes for narrow feet. It seems like other companies just assume all Americans have fat, flat cow feet and leave those of us with low-volume high-arched feet swimming in toeboxes big enough for a family of undocumented workers. Whereas even the NB's sometimes feel like walking in duck feet, these are sleek, slender and agile."Driability"--as I mentioned, the only other criteria holding these back from a full five stars. Get home, rinse them out, sit them in front of a fan, and it seems like they take twice as long as anything else to dry. This carries over during the run. Here in Georgia, it's either raining, or it's so hot that after 5 miles, sweat has completely soaked everything, including your shoes. It may be not as much of an issue in the winter, as the shoe seems to fit close enough that, even if it gets wet, everything is close enough to the skin to still be insulative (like a wet-suit). Hence, I still foresee these being my go-to winter shoes.Style--inasmuch as it matters: it doesn't. The only people who are going to care are other runners, and it won't be looks they're interested in. A coworker saw mine in my bag and called them "cleats". I didn't bother to correct him.Final word: these are the best thing going out there for a mud and winter shoe, but not for a first-time minimalist, and not for mixed road/gravel terrain. They are dedicated, and it shows. Get 'em.

4Good Trail and Cross Country
By John
A very minimalistic trail or cross country running shoe. I use these for both trail running and foot strengthing. A little tight in the toe box area, but I get over it. Perform great in grass and mud areas. Tons lighter then the bulky trail shoes out there.

5Absolutely LOVE these shoes!!
By FreshmanGREEN
It must first be said that I'm a CrossFitter, so I'm pre-conditioned to like Inov-8's already. But this review is totally separate from my CrossFit love for the brand, mainly because I did not buy these shoes and do not use them for CrossFit. I bought these shoes because I like to take my dog trail-running here in Hawaii. I have been trying to go more and more minimal on my shoes to strengthen my feet. I ended up trying to run completely barefoot, but was finding it a little too hard on my feet. I would get cuts and scratches which was no good, and the trails change quickly from mud, to roots, to pine needles, to rock and slate which can be a little hard to grip without causing more damage to your feet. Then I got these shoes!! They are AWESOME. they give you all the flex you could want or need, they grip extremely well and give you great confidence while running without the cleats getting caught on anything (which I was a little worried about), and they are super light and comfortable!! Not to mention they look pretty bad-a$$. I think Inov-8 is a great company that designs stuff for people, not for the biggest market. If you're on the edge about these shoes, get 'em, you'll love 'em. Had mine for a few months now and they're holding up great!!

Product Description

The La Sportiva Crossover GTXis a light, secure trail running shoe that will protect your feet from everything except bullets. The “trail-running” idea conjures images of soft, dry trails on bluebird days. While of course these ideas have merit, true trail running enthusiasts know that running off-road can be wet, slippery, cold and unwieldy. The Crossover GTX was designed to overcome these hurdles. The GTX has a Gore-Tex gaiter to keep snow, sand and mud out of your shoe and keep your feet dry. The entire lining is breathable and zippered to keep your feet well-guarded. Breathable integrated gaiter with an articulated asymmetrical zipper to keep out trail debris, snow or sand Gore-Tex lining to keep feet warm and dry Quick cinch closure on the gaiter keeps feet protected Designed for fast running in wet muddy conditions Impact Brake System

4Not perfect, but better than the alternative
By kevinmcl
I just received my pair from Amazon. It's late October in Ottawa, Canada, and mild, if a bit rainy today. So I walked around the house in my new size 46 La Sportiva Crossover GTXes, made my decision to keep 'em, and took 'em out for a quick run, just to see. Before I get to details, here's where I'm at. I jog/run a bit, including 5 mile (8.7km) commute to the office, a few times per week, all year. I used to pretty much stop jogging/running for winter. I'd walk, in hiking boots, but it's not the same. About 3 years ago, I found some Salomon winter trail-runners (with their one-pull lacing system) and just LOVED them. I've worn them out. I needed a replacement. One thing that I didn't love was the transition months, when the ground was not dry-ish and was also not covered with frozen whiteness, but instead was cold and mucky (late November, part of December) or was covered with partially-hidden melt-water traps and extensive helpings of slush (most of March, and a week or so in the mid-winter thaw). Invariably, I'd step into something that would flow/slop, however briefly, over the low-cut, water-proof Salomons, and then I'd be jogging in soggy socks for the rest of the trip. During winter, I'd wear add-on gaiters, for the parts of my commute where I wasn't on plowed streets or paths, or where the blizzard hadn't been cleared. The gaiters helped keep snow out of the shoe-tops, around the ankle opening, but the fastening system wasn't the greatest, and sometimes I'd get snow rammed up under a gaiter, which then went into my shoe. Drat! So, Hallelujah! when I finally found the La Sportivas that had a built-in gaiter. I can't run in boots (and you shouldn't if you value your joints). I needed something built like a running shoe, but with a soft sock or gaiter extending a few inches up the ankle to keep snow and slush and muck out of the shoe. Obviously, I'm not the only person with this requirement, or they'd not have bothered to make the Crossover GTX Trail shoes. But... why doesn't every running-shoe manufacturer have something similar? It's been like finding hen's teeth. So here's what I have found so far:My normal size is around a 45 (11-1/2 to 12-something in North American sizing). I heeded the advice of other people and bought the La Sportivas a full size larger than usual. I'm keeping this pair, but I could have gone at least a half size larger, again. They're snug, especially with my Smartwool socks in 'em... well, AND my big feet, too, of course. That's one minor quibble. As long as you know to order large, you'll be ok. The last is narrow, but my wide feet seem ok after a quick few miles. I was actually more concerned that I had barely a quarter inch in front of my big toe (where I usually like more than half an inch) but it seems ok, and I don't expect to be doing much steep down-hill running. If you are, then consider carefully the sizing. Also, try them on in your house, and if you have (or can temporarily set up) a slant board, try standing on a slanted surface with your toes pointed down, to see if your feet push the ends of your toes into the ends of the shoes. If that happens, you might want to just pack 'em up and send back to Amazon for a half size (or more) larger. Once you wear them outside, you own 'em.Here's the second quibble. The shoe is lined with GoreTex, and so is waterproof. The gaiter, however, is NOT. The gaiter is a form of mesh. I mean, it's not like a screen door, but it is fabric and if you hold it up to the light, you can see lots of tiny holes of the weave or knit or whatever. So... I expect the gaiters to do an EXCELLENT job of keeping loose snow, splashed slush, and muck out of the shoes. UNfortunately, I know that when I inevitably step on slush-over-puddle or thin-ice-over-puddle next spring, my foot will sink through into two to four inches of bloody-cold water, and that water will come through the gaiter and down into the shoe. So, these shoes are going to solve about 90 percent of the problem, but they don't go all the way. What I would have wanted was that the gaiters be made of (or lined with) GoreTex all the way up. It should be as thin and floppy as possible, because you don't want anything "supportive" and strong above the low shoe part of the footwear, when you use them for actual running. But I really think it should have been possible to go the extra bit and make the gaiter portion truly waterproof, which would have answered the entire prayer I've been praying for... well if I said how long I've been wanting a gaitered running shoe, you'd know how ancient I really am. :-)OK, one more issue. It wasn't a surprise. Somebody mentioned it in a review somewhere, and I can confirm: The gaiter is a bit too snug over the lace-up part of the shoe. I don't mean too snug for comfort, I mean too snug for the proper function of its zipper. It was a tough pull to get the zipper started, and over my instep. I can see the zipper pull breaking very soon, or else the zipper itself will rip from the gaiter fabric. The other reviewer says it didn't last long for him, and he's been using pliers to pull up the zip ever since. That's not too bad if you run only circuits. But if you run or trek from place to place, you'll need to carry pliers or have a set at each stopping place. Just sayin'.Finally, I find these shoes a tad TOO supportive. The soles are stiffer and more built than I'd like. But they work, and they flex enough to run in (I weigh well over 200 pounds, so they darn well do flex when I stride... they wouldn't dare not flex...)Still, I'd appreciate if somebody, anybody would provide links to some other gaitered running shoes or trail shoes. Until that happens, minor quibbles aside, these are RECOMMENDED. A good idea, reasonably well executed. After I've had a chance to wear them in foul winter weather, I'll try to remember to come back and update this review.I was dithering between awarding three stars or four. As you can see, I went with four. If that changes over the next few months, I'll come back and say so.See ya in the funny papers. Or wet and miserable on the trails. :->************DECEMBER 07, 2012 - I'm ba-a-a-a-ack!Well, boyz'n'gurlz, I won't change a word in my review above, but the situation has changed. I'd been edging toward minimalist footwear, with Vibram FiveFingers. They had nothing for winter weather, so I bought my La Sportiva GTXs to get me through winter. But then Vibram came out with their Lontra model, and I jumped. So, despite the good things I (still) have to say about the La Sportivas, I hope to not actually wear them - might give them away on Kajiji - and intend to wear the Vibram FiveFingers Lontras this winter. We'll see if I cave in, when the weather gets nasty. For somebody who still favors the built-up, supportive, "corrective" style of shoe, the La Sportivas are still a good choice. But if you value your feet (and knees and back and.... and....) and have decided to embrace the minimalist footwear paradigm ( I have... I think.... :-) ) then consider Vibram FF instead. And go read my Lontra and Bikila reviews.Don't mean to confuse y'all, but things change and it's good to keep the info up-to-date. Again, nothing bad to say about the La Sportiva Crossover GTX Trail Running Shoe, it's just that my priorities (and availability of a more suitable-for-me product) have changed.Cheers!

3Great shoe..............but!
By Mountain Runner
As noted in title, great shoe in snow and crud but.....The weak link are the zippers; they tend to "clog" and are very difficult to zip up. I broke one zipper and now must resort to using needle nose pliers to zip up and down.I purchased a size that fits well. I assume the issue which I mention could be mitigated somewhat by going to a larger size but then the fit goes to the dogs!

5La Sportiva Crossover GTX survived the torture test
By vinman75
I bought these shoes to run in ToughMudder VT. I wanted something that would keep a good deal of mud and debris out of my shoes so my feet would survive the 10 mile trek. These did very well at keeping the muck out of my foot bed area. Some did cake up inside the gator area though, but wasn't uncomfortable or hinder my running. There was times I was in water up to my chest so there is no real way to keep water out at that depth. The water didn't drain very good, but the shoes were comfortable enough to allow my feet to not get totally wrecked.I only had the chance to run in them 2 times prior to the race. I was concerned with not getting them broken in adequately, but this was not an issue. I followed other buyers advice and ordered a complete size larger than normal, this is definitely recommended. I was able to clean them after the torture test and they have survived. I now use them as my go to shoes for cross country / trail running.

5K-SWISS-lover!
By Thomas Lyman
All of my shoes and sneakers (have about a dozen) are K-Swiss, though this is the first time I ordered from Amazon and not directly from K-SWISS.comOriginally I had gone to the K-Swiss website, but this particular style (of the Bladerunner family of sneakers) did not have my size. This is why I ordered Amazon, because my size was listed.About buying K-Swiss, the sizes are 'true' to whatever size sneaker you take. I take 9.5 (or European 43). K-Swiss 9.5 fits perfectly true to my sneaker/shoe size.An added bonus, I found, after visiting the K-Swiss website, is the price. K-Swiss, which I know their pricing vs. Amazon, I saved about $50 (no lie!) and to top it off, I got 'Free Shipping'.This is my second pair of Bladerunners. My other pair is more expensive and more deluxe, but this pair works very well for the gym, which means it never touches any surface except the gym and will last longer because it does not encounter the elements of walking outdoors.Overall, I was very happy to get my size and a great price reduction by shopping on Amazon.

5Great trail shoes
By Mogie
The older I get the more I appreciate comfort. Yes, I know, minimalism is the latest rage, but for a 50+ ultra runner whose body it beginning to show the miles, there's definitely a place for a comfortable, stable, protective shoe.- Size: Pretty standard. I wear a 10.5 in every other brand, and these are no exception.- Quality: K-Swiss doesn't make junk. These shoes are built to be used, and so far they are taking all the abuse I'm subjecting them to: dirt, gravel and asphalt.- Comfort: Very suppotive without overdoing it. My area of greatest need in my forefoot. Thin shoes don't work for me. Rocks are rocks. They hurt. The Blade-Max Trail shoes are flexible in the forefoot, but have a thicker sole than La Sportiva C-lites, and an effective rock plate---a MUST in my book!- Weight: Despite how robust they look, they actually feel very light under foot and give me a very smooth ride.- Traction: No complaints, even on steep gravel and dirt trails. Small rocks do get wedged between the blades, but they generally work themselves out.- Sexiness: Well, just look at them.Final word. YES!

My street shoes tend to be 8 1/2, sometimes 9. I ordered a 9 1/2. The shoes fit perfectly. My prior trail running shoes had black hard soles like boots. I would slide on steep down hills and my feet would get very hot. The K-Swiss shoe has a softer, more flexible sole. It holds much better going down hill and it is much cooler. They also seem much lighter. The topside does not feel as structured as my prior shoes, which is OK with me if it makes the shoe lighter.I have had them for a few weeks now. I use them only on trails. I have gone about 50 miles on them. So far anyway, they are everything I could ask for.

5Great shoe for winter and wet grass.
By Maribel Garcia
I live in the Northeast where snow and black ice is common early in the morning, I was looking for a winter running shoe with grip for ice and at the same time insulated for running on snow and stay dry. My friend recommended these pair of Puma orange complete, for running very early in the morning with 30* cold weather, the stability of the shoe on ice is good. Great too for wet grass, the grip is excellent. I still own the Itana from Puma for spring and summer and love them but not for extreme weather like these pair of Complete Trailfox.

4Very comfortable, love the look, but squeaky
By Rusty Wilddog
Due to winter I haven't gotten the chance to work them hard, but they fit well and are comfortable while supportive. They squeak a bit when I walk which I hope will fade with more use.
