I bought this shoe based on the recommendations of a minimalist running shoe blogger who indicated that the Go Lite was a great shoe to learn how to run mid foot without as much effort in traditional shoes or even minimalist shoes if you are trying to convert from a heel striker. The shoes have a heel relatively even with the forefoot typical of a minimalist shoe. The difference is the significant weight of 12.5 ounces for a size 9. Definitely not a speed shoe but more appropriate for the trail as it offers a lot of production and doesn't seem very flexible perhaps by design since on a trail, it would offer very good protection. For my purpose, it seems to work as a periodic recovery shoe and does aid in trying to land more mid-foot due to its flat outer sole design but it's not an every day running shoe for those that like flexibility or light weight performance. I don't see it as a competitive trail running shoe but one that offers more protections as a composite running shoe/hiking boot. Also, it has a primary insole with two other insole fore pieces that fit into the primary to offer a neutral, wide or narrow fit. I give it 4 stars because I felt myself leaning slightly forward and running more mid-foot but due to its weight and inflexibility, I will use it as a periodic trainer/recovery show but certain;y not a performance shoe. If possible, I recommend trying it on first to see if it suits what your specific needs are.

I had high hopes. It seemed to fit well. However it caused major bunion pain after the first run. The toe box was too small.

Timberland was mentioned somewhere in the GoLite shoe box. I don't know the connection, but my wife loves her Timberland walking shoes.I haven't had the opportunity to test my new shoes due to wet and muddy trails caused by rain. Therefore my comments so far are limited to wearing the shoes around the house and walking short distances from the house.I bought the shoes because of the price. They cost less than half of the same shoe in a different color. They are very well made.They fit very well. They have a clever way of adjusting the width of the shoe. The front part of the inserts comes in different thicknesses.The shoes are light and have very firm soles. This should be good for stepping on rocks. The construction inside the shoe supports the foot similar to the effect of gently holding one foot in the middle with both hands.The big test will be how well they treat my bad foot on a long trail. As the result of a bicycle accident 22 years ago, I have a drop left foot and cannot lift my left toes. That means thy rub continually and that can cause blisters. So far the GoLite shoes have been good to my bad foot on short distances.
